Langkawi (Day 3 of 6): Tanjung Rhu Sunrise, Pantai Cenang Beach, Cenang Food Trucks

We woke up really early at 6am+ to catch the sunrise at tanjung rhu beach. Unfortunately we didnt see the golden egg yolk of the sun…perhaps it was hiding behind those mountains. It was a really peaceful morning though, and the colors of the sky made the jetty we were at look so beautiful. We ordered breakfast from our airbnb which was pretty good.

After topping up for petrol, we realized that the whole front of the car was coming out!! No idea how this had happened because we didnt feel like we hit anything and it was just a short drive from the airbnb to the petrol station. We think the car might have hit the trash can at the airbnb on the way out. After much freaking out, we decided to drive back to the rental company to return the car and pay for the damage. We had to pay 700 ringgit in total for the damages (not sure if we got cheated but seemed ok?) and suddenly felt so broke. The insurance claim process is ongoing now so hope we manage to get our money back.

After checking in to our new accommodation (white lodge chalet – dont really recommend as it wasnt clean at all. The fridge was full of green mould everywhere!), we headed to cenang beach area for lunch. The cafes were abit overrated and over priced in my opinion (and especially since we didnt have much of a budget after paying for the car damages). Would prefer to eat at the local eateries instead, although they are mostly non air conditioned.

After an afternoon nap, we headed out to the cenang food trucks for dinner (they open in the evening till late at night).

We chose to ate at the furthest truck right at the end. Ordered kang kong (water spinach), fried rice and a bbq fish (ikan bakar). The water spinach was alright, could have needed more garlic/sambal. The fried rice was pretty bad. The bbq fish however, was one of the best tasting fishes I’ve eaten. They drizzled some brown coloured sauce over it which had a unique taste that I’ve never experienced before. Somehow sweet yet salty and a little creamy? I’d go back again to eat this fish!

We watched a fire show that happened that night at cenang beach (feels like they do it on most nights). It was quite amazing how they can do those tricks with fire without hurting themselves. Some of them looked quite young too.

We ended our day off by walking to the other end of cenang street and got ourselves a cup of gelato! I had pistachio flavour and it was probably my favourite out of the other flavours I tried there!
